Privacy Policy

Effective September 3, 2026 (updated to describe Sportsaro Fundraising: campaign and participant pages, donation and sponsorship records, and payouts) · Applies to sportsaro.com and the Sportsaro mobile app

Sportsaro is a social training platform for athletes, families, coaches, and teams. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have — in plain English, because that's how we'd want it explained to us.

What we collect

  • Account information: your name, email address, password (stored encrypted — we never see it), date of birth, and optionally gender. Date of birth is used to apply age-appropriate protections and is never displayed publicly.
  • Profile and content: what you choose to add — photos, videos, bio, sports, positions, team names, city/state, graduation year, achievements, posts, comments, reactions, and messages.
  • Athlete profiles you manage: parents and guardians may create profiles for their children (name, birth year, sport, photo). The managing parent controls this information at all times.
  • Marketplace shipping addresses: when you buy on Sportsaro Marketplace you enter a shipping address at Stripe checkout, and it is shared with the seller so they can ship your order. A seller provides a ship-from address once to price real carrier shipping; it stays private and is never shown on a listing. We never collect device location — no GPS, no location tracking. (Our own usage statistics record an approximate region — country and state, and for adults sometimes a city — worked out from the network connection when a page loads. The connection address itself is never stored, and for anyone under 18 nothing below state level is kept.)
  • Usage information: standard analytics about how the site and app are used (pages visited, features used, general device type), collected two ways: through Google Analytics with ad personalization disabled, and through Sportsaro's own first-party usage statistics (which pages and features are used, how many people are on the site, roughly where visits come from, and which link brought someone here). Our own statistics use a random identifier stored in your browser, are read only in aggregate by Sportsaro staff, are never sold or shared, and hold no IP address. We do not use advertising trackers — see Advertising and sponsorship below for how ads on Sportsaro actually work.

What we do with it

  • Run Sportsaro: show your profile and posts to the audiences you choose, deliver messages, power feeds and teams.
  • Apply safety rules: age protections, guardian controls, moderation, and blocking.
  • Improve the product: understand which features are used so we can make them better.
  • Communicate with you about your account.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your information with data brokers. Sportsaro does carry advertising — served by us, chosen by sport and place, never by profiling anyone. The Advertising and sponsorship section below explains exactly how.

Who can see your content

  • By default, only signed-in Sportsaro members can see profiles, posts, and highlights. Nothing is visible to the open internet unless you choose it.
  • Public shareable pages are opt-in. An adult can turn on a public teaser page for their own profile. For athletes under 18, only a parent or guardian can turn this on, and the guardian decides what athletic information it carries.
  • What a minor's public page can show is the athletic profile information the guardian has chosen to provide and make public — the normal contents of a public athletic profile: sport and position, team, graduation year, athletic bio, goals, awards, availability, the profile photo and approved introduction video, a profile line the guardian approves, general city/state the guardian entered, and public counts.
  • What Sportsaro itself enforces on every minor's public page, regardless of any setting: the athlete's name is always shown as a first name and last initial — never a full name; a birthday, contact information, sign-in or account details, and private messages are never shown; the page is excluded from search engines; and every piece of content on it passed the same automated screening as everything else on the platform. Sportsaro does not collect device or GPS location for any of this — every piece of place information is something the guardian typed in.
  • Messages are private to the people in the conversation, with platform rules (such as adult-to-minor messaging limits) enforced by our systems.
  • You (or the managing parent) can turn any public page off at any time, instantly.

Advertising and sponsorship

Sportsaro carries advertising. Businesses can sponsor a team or pay to promote a post, and those appear in the feed marked as sponsored. Here is exactly how they are chosen.

  • Ads are chosen by sport, not by you. A sponsored post reaches people whose sport matches the one the sponsor picked — the sport on your profile, or the sports of teams you are on. Everybody in that sport sees the same sponsors.
  • We do not profile anyone. We do not build an advertising profile, read your device location, or follow you across other websites. Our usage statistics count which parts of Sportsaro are used; they are never used to profile or target an individual.
  • No advertising network receives your data. Ads are served by us, from our own database. There are no third-party ad tags, retargeting pixels, or data brokers.
  • Children are never targeted. For an account belonging to a minor the same single rule applies and nothing else: by sport, with no profiling of any kind.
  • Some businesses cannot advertise here at any price. Alcohol, tobacco and vaping, cannabis, gambling and betting, firearms, dating, nightclubs, weight loss and supplements, payday lending and cryptocurrency are refused.

Sportsaro Fundraising

Sportsaro Fundraising lets a team or organization run a fundraising campaign. Here is exactly what it collects and what it shows.

  • Campaign information is written by the organizer. The title, purpose, story, goal, dates and photo on a campaign page are supplied by the coach or organizer, and the organizer approves the public story before the campaign can be launched. Sportsaro's AI may draft that story from facts the organizer typed; it does not add facts of its own.
  • Participant fundraising pages. A campaign can give each participant their own page and link. That page shows the participant's public display name, an optional personal goal, the amount raised through their link, a supporter count, the team's totals and the campaign's own words. It never shows an email address, phone number, birthday, home or precise location, guardian details, private messages, or any account or sign-in information.
  • Minors are covered by the same rules as everywhere else on Sportsaro. A participant page for someone under 18 shows a first name, and a last initial only where the athlete's profile is already public by a guardian's choice. A profile photo appears only on the same basis. A parent or guardian can hide their athlete from the public campaign page and the leaderboard at any time, instantly — the personal link keeps working and gifts still count. An organizer can also switch the public leaderboard off for the whole campaign.
  • Donation attribution. When a gift arrives through a participant's link, we record which participant brought it in, so the team can recognise them. The money belongs to the team's campaign in every case; attribution is recognition, not a separate fund.
  • Donor information. A donor gives a name, an email address for their receipt, and chooses whether their name is shown publicly. The email address is used for the receipt and for a single closing thank-you when the campaign ends, and is never shown on any page, never given to the team as a mailing list, and never sold. A donor who has opted out of email from Sportsaro is skipped. No account is required to give.
  • Payments. Card details go directly to Stripe's hosted checkout and never touch Sportsaro. We store what the payment was — amount, fee, status, and Stripe's own reference ids — so a receipt, refund or dispute can be traced. Sportsaro keeps a 15% platform fee on each gift and sponsorship and passes card processing through at cost; the rest is paid to the organization.
  • Business sponsorships. A business can buy a sponsorship package on a campaign. It supplies its business name, a contact name, an email for the receipt, and optionally a phone number, website and short description. Only the business name and the material the team's own staff approve — name, logo, link and description — appear publicly. The contact details are visible to that campaign's staff and to Sportsaro, and are not published. Sportsaro makes no claim that a sponsorship or a gift is tax-deductible and does not provide tax advice.
  • Payout records. When proceeds are paid to an organization we record who received them, the method (check or Venmo), the amount, the date and a reference. Sportsaro does not ask for or store a team's bank account details on these pages. A person at Sportsaro sends every payout; no automated system moves money.
  • Share links and QR codes. A share link and its QR code contain only the campaign address and, for a participant link, a random share code. When someone taps Email, Text, Share, Facebook or X, their own app or that platform's own window opens with the message ready — Sportsaro does not send it, does not post it, and never learns who it was sent to. We record only that a share happened and through which channel.
  • Campaign analytics. The same first-party usage statistics described above cover fundraising pages: which pages were viewed, how far people got in giving, and which channels were shared. They are counted in aggregate and hold no IP address.

Children's privacy

  • An adult holds the account. A parent or guardian creates a profile for each of their athletes, and that profile stays theirs to control.
  • A parent may give their child a sign-in for their own device. It is a passcode the parent creates and can withdraw at any moment. There is no email address, no password reset, and nothing for the child to recover. Withdrawing it signs the child out everywhere straight away.
  • A parent decides how much review their child's posts get. Approving a child onto Sportsaro is the parent's decision, and after that the child's posts publish to their own page under the platform's safety systems (automated content screening and our moderation queue). A parent can additionally turn on post holding for any of their athletes at any time — with holding on, that child's posts wait for the parent's approval before appearing.
  • A child's page starts private and stays private until a parent chooses otherwise. When a parent turns on a public page, it shows the athletic information the parent chose to share (see “Who can see your content” above). We never show a minor's full name or birthday to strangers, and pages for minors are hidden from search engines. The parent can switch the page off at any time, instantly.
  • We collect only the child information a parent chooses to provide.
  • A parent or guardian can review, edit, make private, or delete their athlete's profile and anything on it at any time from their account, or by contacting us at the address below.

Service providers we rely on

Your data is processed by a small set of infrastructure providers under their own security and privacy obligations: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Cloudflare (website hosting and video streaming), Stripe (payments — when you buy something, give to a fundraiser, or a team receives sponsorship money, your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch Sportsaro; teams that take payouts give Stripe their bank details the same way), Resend (sending transactional email such as receipts and confirmations), Klaviyo (email for people who have explicitly opted in to marketing email and confirmed their address; a confirmed adult's email address and first name are shared with it, and nobody else's), and Google Analytics (usage statistics, with ad features disabled). We share with them only what is needed to run the service.

How long we keep things

Your content stays until you delete it or delete your account. When you delete your account, your profile, posts, and media are removed from the platform. Some records (like moderation reports) may be retained where required for safety or legal reasons.

Your choices and rights

  • Edit your profile and content anytime from your account.
  • Turn public visibility on or off anytime (Settings → Public shareable page, or the athlete's row in My athletes).
  • Delete individual posts or media, or your entire account, from within Sportsaro.
  • Request a copy, correction, or deletion of your information by emailing us — we'll respond within 30 days.

Emails we send to teams and coaches

When we build a page for a team and email its coach or organizer an invitation to take it over, that email can include standard delivery measurement: a small image that may register when the email is opened, and links that pass through our site so we can tell the invitation was clicked. Opens are approximate — many email providers load images automatically, so an "open" is a hint, not proof anyone read it. Every such email carries an unsubscribe link, and once someone opts out we stop emailing them. This measurement applies only to those outreach invitations, never to messages between members on Sportsaro.

Security

All traffic is encrypted in transit. Data access is controlled with row-level security, meaning the database itself enforces who can see what. Media files live in private storage and are served through expiring links. No system is perfectly secure, but we build with safety as the default.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and its effective date. For significant changes, we'll notify members on the platform.
